Elena Araoz directs theater and opera internationally, Off-Broadway, and regionally. This season, she directs in NYC Octavio Solís’ Prospect (Boundless Theatre), Hilary Bettis’ Alligator (New Georges),Dipika Guha’s Mechanics of Love, Vicki Grise’s She-She-She (Ice Factory, New Ohio). Two Arms and a Noise that Araoz wrote and directed as a New York Theatre Workshop fellow will be presented in Romania at Bucharest International Theatre Platform (Latino Theatre Commons named it one of "thirty-six [Latino] plays and writers that everyone should know”). Araoz was The Drama League’s inaugural Beatrice Terry Residency to write Plastic Drastic, (an environmentally-aware music-theatre adaptation of The Odyssey) which she directed for the Rose Theatre. Recent credits: Architecture of Becoming (Women’s Project), two Off-Broadway Carl Djerassi plays, world premiere Li Tong's The Power (Beijing), Midsummer Night’s Dream (Prague Shakespeare), Mac Wellman’s Wu and Horrocks (Sleeping Weazel at ArtsEmerson), Natalia Naman’s Lawnpeople (Cherry Lane Mentor Project), La traviata (New York City Opera at BAM), Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera North), Falstaff (Brooklyn Philharmonic at BAM), Latin Lovers (Glimmerglass). She works with Sir Jonathan Miller as Choreographer and Associate Director and recently with Sir Richard Eyre. She joins Princeton University’s faculty in September. www.elenaaraoz.com
